Kevin Kelly, President and CEO of KLN Specialty Insurance, Joins Children’s Fund and CHDI Board of Directors

Thursday, June 07, 2007: FARMINGTON – Kevin W. Kelly, the President and CEO of a professional liability insurance brokerage firm specializing in medical malpractice insurance, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Children’s Fund of Connecticut and its subsidiary, the Child Health and Development Institute (CHDI) of Connecticut.
Mr. Kelly is a founding partner of Medical Risk Management, a firm that provides medical liability and risk management to physician groups, hospitals, and insurance companies, and KLN Specialty Insurance, a nationwide professional liability insurance brokerage firm. He has more than 23 years of experience in the health care and health insurance industries and has served in both operational and policy development positions. He was the founder and CEO of MedSpan, a regional managed care company, where he built revenues to $240 million before its acquisition by Oxford Health Plans.
Before joining KLN, Mr. Kelly spent two years as the Executive Director of the Signature Programs at the University of Connecticut Health Center, a partner organization of the Children’s Fund and CHDI. In this role, he directed the business plan development and implementation process of the University's three principle health care business strategies. Prior to that, he was a National Fellow with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and the American Hospital Association, and also served as an administrator at Hartford Hospital and the Connecticut Health System and the Executive Director of the Hartford Physician Hospital Organization.
Mr. Kelly earned his bachelor’s degree in health service administration at Providence College and his master of public health (MPH) degree in hospital administration at Yale University.
CHDI is the operating arm of the Children’s Fund of Connecticut, a non-profit charitable foundation dedicated to improving the healthy development of Connecticut’s children. Together, the Children’s Fund and CHDI are pursuing the ultimate goal that all children in Connecticut, particularly those who are disadvantaged, will have access to and make use of a comprehensive, effective, community-based health and mental health care system.
Working in close partnership with two of the state’s leading medical training institutions, Yale and the University of Connecticut, as well as the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, several state agencies, and various other key stakeholders, the Children’s Fund and CHDI create and support lasting improvements in primary and pediatric health and mental health care for Connecticut’s children.
